What’s the deadline, and who does it affect?

Due to Shopify’s updated policies, subscription apps not directly integrated with Shopify Checkout will no longer be able to accept or process subscription orders after October 18, 2024. This deadline affects all Shopify merchants using a subscriptions app that is not supported by Shopify Checkout.

For existing customers of Bold, this only affects those on V1 of our Subscriptions app. If you are using V1, you will need to migrate to the V2 app by the October 18 deadline to avoid any interruptions to your business.

If you’re already using Bold Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout (V2), you do not need to migrate and will experience absolutely no interruptions to your business. If you’re not sure what version you’re on, just check your Shopify apps list! If your application name is Bold Subscriptions, you’re already on the latest version that utilizes Shopify Checkout.

If you’re not a customer of Bold, but are using a subscriptions app with a legacy checkout like Recharge V1 or PayWhirl, you too will be required to migrate by the October 18 deadline.

What does a migration entail?

Migrating to Bold Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout has never been easier. Our dedicated Migrations team offers white-glove service backed with years of experience to help get you set up quickly.

You do not need any technical expertise to migrate. Our team will handle the majority of the work and all of the technical (non-custom) work. The only things our team cannot do are the things that only a merchant has permission to do. This includes:

Is there a cost associated with migrating?

Nope! Whether you’re a current customer migrating to V2, or you’re migrating from another app provider, there’s zero cost. In fact, for brands migrating to Bold, we’re excited to offer the first 3 months of app fees completely free!*

What payment gateways are supported on Shopify Checkout?

The following payment gateways are supported for subscriptions:

  • Shopify Payments
  • PayPal Express
  • Authorize.net
  • Adyen
  • Stripe

If you are located in a country or region where Shopify Payments is not available, choose from any of the other payment gateways listed above. Please note that Stripe is only available to select merchants in cases where your store cannot use Shopify Payments.

While you are not required to use Shopify Payments to use Shopify Checkout, it is one of the easiest ways to accept payments online. One of the benefits to using Shopify Payment is that you can enable Shop Pay, allowing customers to save their shipping and payment information and check out faster.

How will a migration impact my customers?

Your customers will not incur any disruption with a migration to Bold Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout. In fact, your customers will not even know a migration is happening! Your customers don't need to take any action following a migration, unless you are introducing a change to your settings or subscription offering. If you have concerns, our team can confirm whether any changes you want to make will impact your existing subscribers.

How long does a migration take?

Some migrations can easily be completed in less than a day once they are scheduled with our team, while others can take a few months. It all depends on the complexity of your store’s set up. Once you submit your migration request, a member of our team will reach out and assess your specific needs and work with you to build a timeline that works for you and your business.

What happens if I don’t migrate by the deadline?

If you choose to not migrate, your store will no longer be able to accept or process any subscription orders after October 18, 2024. We understand that subscriptions are an important part of your business and are here to help you migrate as seamlessly as possible before this date so you don’t experience any interruptions to your subscriptions business.
