When you’re selling on Adobe Commerce (Magento 2), your checkout needs to do more than just work, it needs to perform. That means offering the modern payment methods customers expect, staying secure, and keeping the user experience smooth.
Enter Bold Booster for PayPal: a powerful extension that gives merchants access to PayPal’s full lineup of payment solutions, including Fastlane (US only), Buy Now Pay Later, and more, all without touching your existing checkout customizations or incurring additional fees.
Here's how to get set up.
Step 1: Configure Security Settings
To get things running, you’ll need to make sure Bold can securely talk to your store. That means allowing Bold’s domains and IP addresses through your firewall.
Allowlist these domains:
Allowlist these IPs (see full list in our dev docs):
- Example: 34.118.185.130, 35.234.253.95, etc.
If your firewall filters by headers, allow requests with the User-Agent: Bold-API.
Step 2: Install Bold Booster for PayPal
We recommend using Composer for a quick and clean install.
Run the following commands in your terminal:
composer require bold-commerce/module-checkout-payment-booster
php bin/magento setup:di:compile
php bin/magento setup:upgrade
On Magento 2.3.x? You’ll need to apply a CSP patch:
patch < vendor/bold-commerce/module-checkout-payment-booster/patches/CSP-PAYMENT-BOOSTER_2.3.x.patch
Step 3: Complete Onboarding in Admin
- Go to Stores > Configuration
- Under Sales > Checkout, look for the Bold onboarding banner.
- Click Connect with Bold and follow the prompts:
- Create/log in to a Bold account
- Connect your store
- Install Bold Checkout
- Choose and configure a payment gateway (PayPal Complete Payments or Braintree)
Important:
- Save your API access token when prompted.
- Make sure your browser doesn’t block cookies.
Step 4: Configure in Adobe Commerce
1. Stay in the Configuration page
2. Under Bold Checkout Payment Booster, paste in your API token
3. Turn on Is Payment Booster Enabled
4. Optionally enable Fastlane, and set your wallet/payment titles
5. Enable digital wallets above the shipping step (or not—your call)
6. Choose whether to show PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay buttons on:
- Cart Page
- Product Page
Don’t forget to hit Save Config and Flush Magento Cache.
Step 5: Enable Fastlane (Optional but Powerful)
Fastlane by PayPal eliminates friction at checkout by pre-filling customer info for returning PayPal users. It also lets new customers save their info for future purchases. It’s a no-brainer for increasing conversions and boosting LTV.
What You Need:
- US-based store selling in USD
- PayPal Complete Payments or Braintree account
- Fastlane enabled on PayPal’s side
How to turn it on:
- Log into Bold Account Center
- Go to Payment options > Payment gateways
- Edit your PayPal or Braintree settings
- Enable Fastlane and style the widget if you want
In your Magento admin:
- Set Is Fastlane Enabled to Yes
- Make sure Enable Express Pay is also set to Yes
- Save and flush the cache
What Customers See
If they already use PayPal/Fastlane:
They enter their email, get a quick text code, and their checkout is magically pre-filled. They hit "Buy" and they’re done.
If they’re new to Fastlane:
They enter info like usual and can opt into saving it. Next time, their checkout is just as seamless.
